Framework for Responsible Marketing of Alcohol Launched
The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Ireland has today (13/03/14) welcomed the publication of the ICC Framework for Responsible Marketing Communications of Alcohol (The Framework) which will help strengthen self-regulation for marketing alcohol.
Speaking this morning, Ian Talbot, ICC Ireland Secretary General said, “The Framework takes basic principles such as honesty, safety and social responsibility and outlines how this should be applied to the marketing of alcohol. Developed in consultation with the alcohol sector, the Framework is designed to help businesses strengthen their regulatory processes and make it easier to market overseas. Businesses and consumers will benefit from a standardised global code which upholds important values for the marketing of a sensitive product.”
The International Center for Alcohol Policies (ICAP) has been strongly supportive of this effort. According to Brett Bivans, Senior Vice President of ICAP, “This is a significant step in strengthening and clarifying high standards of responsible marketing, and we will work closely with ICC and other partners as the Framework is implemented.”
The Framework can be downloaded here.

About the ICC Framework for Responsible Marketing Communications of Alcohol
By clarifying how existing global principles should be applied in practice, the ICC Framework for Responsible Marketing Communications of Alcohol (The Framework) offers companies and self-regulatory bodies a guide for bolstering responsible practice across markets. It will also serve as the basis for developing self-regulatory rules for marketing alcohol where these do not exist. The Framework was developed by the body of global experts responsible for developing and updating the Consolidated ICC Code of Advertising and Marketing Communications Practice, which serves as the gold standard for most national and sectoral self-regulation.
