Investment Plan for Europe Welcomed by Irish Business
Chambers Ireland today welcomed the new European Commission Investment Plan and its focus on leveraging private sector investment.
Ian Talbot, Chief Executive, speaking this afternoon said “The Commission’s approach sends an important message at the start of the new term; stimulating private investment for strategic infrastructure is vital. For several budgets in succession Ireland has had to dramatically cut its capital investment and it now stands at just over a third of its 2008 level. This new programme offers a great opportunity for Ireland to put critical, strategic infrastructure projects back on the map in areas such as roads and transport generally, water treatment and supply, broadband, schools and health and wellbeing services. This will also provide a boost to job creation with the expectation that projects should be ready to commence as early as 2015.”
