Chambers Ireland Statement on the Death of Former Taoiseach John Bruton
The Board and staff of Chambers Ireland are deeply saddened to learn of the death of former Taoiseach John Bruton earlier today (6 February 2024).
Speaking this afternoon Ian Talbot, Chief Executive, said:
“Mr Bruton was an outstanding politician and statesman. Having been first elected to the Dail in 1969, he had an exceptional political career. Prior to becoming Taoiseach in 1994 he served for several years as Minister for the Industry and Commerce portfolio and played a vitally important role in the expansion of our Foreign Direct Investment Manufacturing offering which has been so crucial in our economic success since the 1990s. Amongst his many achievements as Taoiseach were the promotion of our strongly developing economy and facilitating the growth of the International Financial Services Centre. Subsequently as EU Ambassador to the United States he did a unique job of communicating developments and opportunities to the advantage of Ireland and Irish Businesses.
We pass on our deepest regrets to his family.”
