Retail Sales Figures a Reminder to Focus on the Domestic Economy
Chambers Ireland has today (28/11/12) called on the Government to ensure that the ongoing improvement in Retail Sales is given further positive momentum in Budget 2013.
Speaking this afternoon, Seán Murphy, Chambers Ireland Deputy Chief Executive said, “While the volume of retail sales increased by 1.7% in October 2012 when compared with September 2012 with a year on year increase of 3.1%, the Government must further encourage these all too fragile improvements to produce sustained economic growth that will ultimately lead to the creation of new jobs in the domestic economy.”
“Consumer confidence will only strengthen through increased job security. To this end Budget 2013 must focus on not increasing the cost of employment. This will support existing jobs and enhance the business case for new job creation in 2013,” he concluded.
