Chambers Ireland Welcomes Retrofitting Updates
28 January 2026
Chambers Ireland have today welcomed the introduction of a suite of new grants and additional supports from the SEAI that will make home energy upgrades more accessible and flexible for Irish households. Chambers Ireland have been advocating for the rollout of measures that enable shallow retrofits at scale, which can help households mitigate the effects of higher energy costs and ensure the national retrofitting programme can be as effective as possible.
Speaking about the announcement, Chambers Ireland’s Chief Executive, Ian Talbot, said:
“It’s great to see this package of new and enhanced grants being announced. The SEAI’s current suite of supports has been transformative for many households across the country that have committed to extensive reforms to the energy efficiency of their home. However, deep scale retrofits often require families to move out during renovations, which can be costly and disruptive. By increasing grant levels and introducing accessible supports for shallow retrofits, these new measures will encourage more homeowners to upgrade the energy efficiency of their homes, which in turn is more sustainable and will take some of the mounting pressure off our primary energy sources.
Although significant progress has been made and over 240,000 homes have benefitted already, the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment set a target of 400,000 heat pumps to be installed in existing premises by the end of 2030, therefore, there is no time to lose.”
