Chambers Ireland Welcomes Announcement by Taoiseach Leo Varadkar that M20 is to be included in Capital Plan
Speaking today (13 Oct 2017) after Taoiseach Leo Varadkar confirmed that the Cork – Limerick motorway would be included in the government’s ten year capital plan, Ian Talbot, Chief Executive of Chambers Ireland commented:
“The announcement today that the Cork – Limerick M20 is to go ahead is very welcome. It will enable greater connectivity between the regions and allow for businesses to conduct operations more easily. It also illustrates very clearly the strength and energy created when Chambers collaborate, united by a common goal. Cork and Limerick Chambers took the initiative to jointly commission research and align their resources to spearhead progress on the M20 plan.
We must also look at the big picture and encourage the continuation of this momentum. Major investment in Ireland’s transport infrastructure generally is needed and new projects that will deliver inter-regional and intra-city connectivity and public transport options should be prioritised.
Transport is one of the most tangible issues affecting business’ day-to-day operations in all areas of the country and has been highlighted by our Network as the top priority in capital expenditure. Without increased investment in transport we risk undermining our ability to generate economic growth in a sustainable manner, as well as damaging our national competitiveness.”
